THIS WORKS MUCH BETTER THAN CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS TO EASE BACK PAIN

While conventional treatments for lower back pain, such as surgery; traction; massage; bed rest; and acupuncture; are all helpful in bringing temporary relief, many experts believe that exercise can be an effective long-term solution.

Recent research has shown that people with chronic back pain who participate in some form of regular exercise are better able to manage the pain than those who remain inactive. But, before you decide to undertake any particular type of exercise, consult your doctor about the exact cause of your back pain. If you have problems with your vertebral discs, or if you have osteoporosis, it is essential that you have a doctor guide you in your exercise program.

New Technique To End Back Pain

A recently developed “external” technique that simulates spinal fusion can provide the sufferers of back pain with a preview of the results of back surgery.

Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure designed to alleviate painful movement by holding selected pieces of bone in place. The new preview technique was developed at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and utilizes steel rods and screws which are held in place by a device originally designed to correct spinal fractures. The new technique allows doctors, who have a difficult task of determining which of the ten lumbar joints in the spine is creating the lower back pain, to fuse, temporarily, the joint suspected of being the culprit.

With the external device in place, a patient can go about his or her routine daily tasks and at the same time determine if the problem joints have been located. If the patient experiences complete relief, he or she is likely to get that same result from permanent spinal fusion. However, if the pain persists, the patient and doctor can examine other possible problem areas before proceeding with major surgery.
